Outreach
Southwest Idaho SWE members are passionate about serving Idaho's Treasure Valley community with their skills and time.
Check out upcoming outreach opportunities on our calendar, and find out how to get involved.
Student Outreach
We share our passion for engineering by organizing, participating in, and sponsoring activities in Idaho's Treasure Valley that introduce youth, especially young women, to engineering.
Volunteerism
Each year, we incorporate community service activities into our schedule to give something back to our community. Activities include helping Girl Scouts, building houses with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at the Boise Zoo or Discovery Center, or volunteering at a local women and children's center.
In March 2008, SW-Idaho SWE VP Pat Pyke coordinated SWE members and others in the Treasure Valley to redecorate a Women and Children's Alliance shelter room. Boise State University featured the project on their website.
National SWE Outreach
The national SWE organization also reaches out to youth and students, on a national level, via K-12 and collegiate programs.

- Scholarships | The Idaho SWE scholarship program offers scholarships to outstanding incoming female college freshmen from anywhere in Idaho.
- E-Girls | Southwest Idaho SWE members volunteer annually at e-Girls, an overnight summer camp for high school girls. The camp is held at Boise State University and is free to all attendees. It provides high school girls a rich opportunity to learn about engineering careers and meet female professional engineers and students. To attend, fill out and send an application.
- Women in Technical Careers Luncheons | We offer our time and experience to Women in Technical Careers (WITC) luncheons, sponsored by HP, Micron, and Boise State University's College of Engineering. WITC luncheons provide high school students with pizza and an opportunity to hear a woman's perspective on non-traditional careers and the value of a strong math and science educational foundation.
- STEM Exploration Day | SWE members host a hands-on activity at the annual Boise State University STEM Exploration Day, a free event for families with a variety of activities designed for all ages.
- Idaho Future City | The Idaho Future City competition offers seventh and eighth graders the opportunity to work on a hands-on engineering project with a volunteer engineering mentor.
